The SBU North District plays an active role in promoting and teaching bridge in the North East of Scotland.  We run classes for all ages and abilities as well as running competitions and events at a local and national level for learners.

If you would like to join these classes or, for more information, please call Aberdeen Bridge Club on 01224 644773 and leave a message for Mrs. L. Findlay, who is the Education Officer for the district. Alternatively, please This email address is being protected from spambots. Classes for adults are generally run from autumn to spring (giving you something inspiring to do through the winter!) and are run in Aberdeen, Banchory, Aboyne and Ballater.  All levels of ability from complete novice to improving club player are catered for.

At the Bridge Club, Aberdeen, 1st year beginners' classes are on Monday evenings from 7 pm to about 10 pm.  There is also a Thursday morning class beginning in September.

For 2017 they will start on the 25th September. For more information follow the link: BC Classes

2nd year beginner's classes are on Wednesday evenings from 7 pm to about 10 pm depending on demand.

The Northern Arts Club will also be offering  second year classes this year on Tuesday evenings starting in September. Details are here: NAC Classes

There are a total of 60 lessons over the two years so they are spread over three terms in the year with about 10 lessons each term with breaks at Chritsmas and Easter.

Improvers' classes may be held occasionally depending on demand.

2nd year pupils and Improvers at the Bridge Club will continue to learn about the game during the Monday evening Nova Sessions. These are very friendly, relaxed playing sessions where beginners can practise what they have learned without worrying about making mistakes. They can also ask for advice from the more experienced players.

Once thet have gained some experience and confidence they can move on to play in touranaments in the main club.

Contact Loraine Findlay, the education officer for more information.

A number of school pupils from around the North-East have already started learning bridge as an extra-curricular activity.  The Hugh Kelsey, the Annual National Competition which takes place in March, has a Junior Section in which school pupils from Aberdeen have participated over the last few years. We wish our enthusiastic young players all the best for the coming season.

Some of the Secondary pupils have been invited again to take part in a coaching session with the Scottish Junior Team, during the Christmas Holidays.

Schools also take part in The Schools Minibridge National Competition. This was held in Dundee in 2017.

In three recent years Aberdeen Secondary Schools have won the prestigious Scotsman Cup for the best school team in Scotland.

A wide range of ages have already joined these classes at both primary and secondary school levels.  Classes are held for school pupils from Primary 6 to Secondary 6th year, inclusive and are free (including refreshments, courtesy of Aberdeen Bridge Club).  The classes are run on a Wednesday, after school, from 15:30 until 17:15, in Aberdeen Bridge Club, starting in late September  by a rota of qualified SBU teachers.
